Venture capital firm promotion
SCOTTISH Equity Partners (SEP) has announced that Jan Rutherford is assuming responsibility for investor relations and will also head up SEP’s London office, while continuing to play a key role in the investment team.
The group has also made two new appointments to its investment team.
David Stevens joins as a senior adviser. David started his career in venture capital before moving into investment banking with Goldman Sachs and then JP Morgan, where he was a managing director. He has also served as chief executive of analytics company, Sumerian
He will focus on the origination and assessment of new investment opportunities.
SEP has also appointed Taylor Rampton, a graduate of the London School of Economics, as an Analyst. Taylor joins from global investment house Blackrock and will be based in SEP’s London office.
Calum Paterson, managing partner at SEP said: “These new appointments will help us deliver our core objective of backing the best high growth technology businesses across the UK and beyond, and playing an active role in their development.”
Firm strengthens banking team
HARPER Macleod has named a new partner among six promotions as it looks to strengthen its banking and finance team.
John Pringle is the latest addition to this team and will based at the firm's Edinburgh office at Citypoint, Haymarket. Mr Pringle, who joined the firm in 2012, acts for lenders and borrowers across a wide range of industry sectors and is regularly involved in complex, high-value and multi-jurisdictional transactions.
The team is further enhanced by the promotion of Andrew Ronald to associate.
The round of promotions also sees two of the firm's non-legal staff promoted to partner-equivalent status, while three solicitors make the step up to associate level.
Tax Manager Amber Heron and Lerwick-based property manager Robert Bell, who heads the firm's market leading estate agency in Shetland, are both now partner-equivalents within the firm. Also in Lerwick, solicitor Richard Donaldson has been promoted, to associate. And family lawyer Grant Hassan also makes the step up to associate in the firm's Inverness office.
Board changes at social investor
THIRD sector funder Social Investment Scotland (SIS) has appointed John Watt and Susan Younger to its board, replacing Gordon More and Jo Armstrong who are both stepping down.
A lawyer for 28 years, latterly as a partner and head of banking for Morton Fraser, Susan Younger is currently executive chair of Cairn Mhor Childcare Partnership in Fife, operating three children’s residential homes.
John Watt is an experienced infrastructure and public sector advisor with a strong financial and commercial skill set. John runs a consultancy specialising in energy, infrastructure and transport projects. He is a board member of the Ethical Finance Hub, Zero Waste Scotland and Our Power Community Benefit Society, one of Social Investment Scotland’s key investments.
Mr Watt has also been appointed chair of the capital and finance committee.
