Finance director for Buccleuch
BUCCLEUCH has promoted its group tax and treasury manager Jon Alexander to the role of finance director.
The group, which manages the estate of the Duke of Buccleuch and his family, said Mr Alexander’s new appointment would place him in charge of the finance teams working across Buccleuch’s head office and its estates, with business activities spanning the likes of tourism, energy, rural property and agricultural enterprises.
His new role will see him working closely with the Buccleuch board and other senior management.
Mr Alexander started his career within the corporate tax department of Arthur Andersen before establishing an in house tax department with international ship management company, V-Ships. He has been with Buccleuch since 2004.
He said: “The last decade has seen many aspects of the Buccleuch business change, and there is a long-term approach to investment in sectors such as energy and hospitality, using Buccleuch’s existing resources to build growth and generate economic activity in regions where our estates are based.”
Architect designs move to LBA
EDINBURGH architecture and design studio, LBA has appointed senior architectural designer Gareth Jones, who will focus on private clients and commercial residential projects.
With a career spanning more than 15 years, Mr Jones has held senior positions in architectural practices including Richard Murphy Architects. He has also directed many high end domestic building projects and won national accolades for his work.
The most notable project to date, Murphy House, was awarded the 2016 RIBA House of the Year category as well as the restoration and conversion of the historic Playfair’s Donaldson’s School building and Gate Lodges in Edinburgh into 112 luxury apartments.
Commenting on the appointment, Lynsay Bell, managing director of LBA said: “Gareth’s appointment is testament to our commitment to grow the business further. We have admired Gareth’s work for many years and delighted that he’s joined our team as he brings a wealth of design expertise and industry knowledge.”
afh expands into healthcare
COMMERCIAL interiors firm, afh Strategic Contracts, is expanding into the healthcare interior design market following strong growth, and has appointed Paul Mitchell as healthcare consultant to drive its move into the sector.
Afh, which specialises in interior design and fit-out services, has revamped the interiors of Macdonald Hotels across Scotland as well as the fit-out of 200 St Vincent Street, Glasgow and multiple sites across the UK for Webhelp, a major call centre operator.
Recent healthcare projects undertaken by afh Strategic Contracts include the full fit-out of two new clinics for The Fertility Partnership in Maidenhead and Chelmsford as a combined project costing in excess of £1.8m.
In the year to January 31, the Glasgow-based company’s turnover was £5.5m, with profits climbing 15 per cent and forecast to grow again in 2017.
