THE Fife firm behind an electric rally car for junior drivers is looking forward to scaling up its output after being backed by a major motor finance specialist.

ERally Motorsport, set up by rally driver Ellya Gold and Formula 1000 chairman Tristan Dodd, are aiming to make a big impact on the junior rallying scene thanks to the deal with RCI Financial Services. It comes after eRally successfully road-tested its prototype car, a fully-electric Renault Zoe. ERally stripped the car out and readied it to be driven safely and competitively by 14 to 17 year olds.

Now the Rosyth-based firm is looking to bring more cars to market thanks to the partnership with RCI, the UK finance partner for Renault, Nissan, Infiniti and Dacia. RCI has agreed to provide the vehicles at discounted rate under a sponsorship package supported by Business Gateway Fife and further deals sought to help bring down the car’s price from £15,000 to below £10,000.

The Scottish firm’ ultimately aims to launch the eRally Championship in Scotland in the next three years.

Jean Hay, co-driver and project co-ordinator at eRally, said: “Over the past few years there has been a marked change in how motorsport views electric cars, with both Formula-e and Electric GT World Series growing in popularity.

“But popularity can only get you so far as sponsorship deals are the lifeblood of any rally team.”
