CRAFT distiller Eden Mill has revealed it will launch the first Scotch whisky to have been blended, matured and bottled in St Andrews for more than 150 years – on the day Scotland celebrates its patron saint.
The Fife-based drinks company is marking St Andrew’s Day by launching the Art Of The Blend, a three-strong range of premium whiskies, at tastings in Glasgow, Dubai and at the Scottish Office in London.
The small-batch whiskies are based on a selection of single malts, ranging from five to 20 years old, which the company has blended and matured in a variety of casks at its distillery in St Andrews.
Eden said the whiskies are based on a similar core blend but finished for 12 months in different wood types, which it said affords each liquid a distinctive profile.
The company, headed by drinks industry veteran Paul Miller, has introduced the blends before the launch of its maiden single malt, expected to come in a year’s time.
Mr Miller said the Art Of The Blend comes at a time of growing interest among whisky lovers in the skill that goes into making high quality blended whisky.
Bottle runs of between 350 and 2,400 have been produced of the three batches, which Mr Miller said will be available at the Eden Mill distillery and outlets such as its pop-up stores in Princes Square, Glasgow, and George Street, Edinburgh.
Mr Miller said: “Scotch whisky drinkers are increasingly interested in the make- up of what they are drinking, they appreciate the complexity and are thirsty for knowledge as to why these great whiskies taste as they do.”
