ENTREPRENEUR Robert Kilgour’s care home venture has highlighted its rapid growth, after making its first move into the west of Scotland with the purchase of a business in Whitecraigs in East Renfrewshire.

But Mr Kilgour also highlighted challenges posed to his Renaissance Care business by the UK electorate’s vote to leave the European Union, noting nearly 30 per cent of his company’s staff are from overseas.

Renaissance Care, based in Musselburgh in East Lothian, bought the 58-bed business in Whitecraigs from Four Seasons Health Care, a business he previously founded and built up. The Whitecraigs care home business has 90 staff.

The entrepreneur, who made his final financial exit from Four Seasons in 2005 and founded his current business in the same year, expects Renaissance Care to achieve turnover of about £20 million in the coming year.

Renaissance Care, which is owned by Mr Kilgour and its senior management team, noted a more-than-doubling of the size of the business in the space of three years. The company now employs about 800 staff in 12 care homes throughout Scotland, and Mr Kilgour flagged a major investment programme.

He said: “There will be interesting challenges with Brexit as it develops, as nearly 30 per cent of our staff come from outside the UK.”

But he added: “I’m very excited by the future potential of Renaissance Care.”
