A SPECIALIST furniture and flooring department was opened last night in venerable Edinburgh store Jenners, following a £100,000 investment.

The new department in the Princes Street store, owned by House of Fraser, is triple the size of the previous furniture department, allowing Jenners to expand its product range and introduce a series of new furniture galleries.

The investment creates what the company said is the biggest destination for branded furniture in the heart of Edinburgh. Brands such as La-Z-Boy, SiSi Italia and Parker Knoll have been introduced. The re-vamped department will also showcase a number of new ranges including a Harris Tweed collection from upholstery firm Tetrad and a range from Alexander & James.

Business development director Elaine Ray said: “The new department makes for a bigger and better furniture and flooring offer for people in Edinburgh. We have added new ranges, branded furniture galleries and totally re-vamped the area for a better shopping environment.”

House of Fraser acquired Jenners, which was the world’s oldest independent department store, for £460 million in 2005.

An event to open the department was held last night and included the raffle of a sofa cake, designed by 3D Cakes, to raise funds for St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh.
