SANTANDER bank has become the 200th employer to commit to the Scottish Business Pledge under which firms make a voluntary commitment to follow policies intended to promote fairness and equality, such as paying the living wage. Roseanna Cunningham, Cabinet Secretary for Fair Work, Skills and Training in the Scottish Government, said she was pleased that such a large business had signed the pledge. Santander has more than 2,000 employees in Scotland. Ms Cunningham said: “While fairer working practices will benefit employees, employers themselves stand to benefit from increased productivity, improved morale and lower absence rates.”
