Vegetable and daffodil grower Produce Investments has confirmed plans to shut one of its smaller English potato packing sites.

It had been in consultation with workers at The Kent Potato Company since last month.

It is understood around 20 staff are affected by the closure.

AIM-listed Produce, which supplies the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, intends to transfer all packing operations to larger sites near Doddington in Cambridgeshire and Duns in Scotland.

Produce said: “The Company can now confirm that packing operations will cease at the [Kent] site in early December, with volumes transferring to their sites in the Scottish Borders and Cambridgeshire.”
