What is it?

App-based real-time audio fitness instruction.

How will it change my life?

Wearable activity gadgets took off in a big way thanks to their convenience, low profile design and smartphone compatibility. The drawback of such technology is that they are only viable as a tracking tool for calories burned or steps taken which are no indication of a person's health.

Pear Sports know that to gain a true perspective of fitness levels you need to look a bit deeper, specifically to the heart and how efficiently it can pump oxygenated blood to the muscles. Alternative systems in the past have included heart rate monitoring and audio coaching, but never in conjunction and in real-time.

Good points?

The app is easy to configure and will work with any Bluetooth low energy (BLE 4.0) compatible heart rate monitor. There is a wealth of workouts to choose from beginner to fanatic and across multiple disciplines such as running, cycling, and yoga.

The way the coach issues instructions based on your current heart rate is impressive and adds a bit of motivation in a fun way. You feel like what you're doing and how it's being accomplished makes a difference which is normally the toughest aspect when working out alone. Training in the proper heart zone is key to achieving specific results.

You can pipe in your own music if certain beats get you going which won't disturb the audio coach as it fades while the instructions are issued.

Bad points?

It would have been great to have compatibility with cycle computers to dedicate workouts for the bike. Although the app is free to download you can start to haemorrhage money when looking to diversify your routine with the various workouts.
