A BUSINESS park close to the M77 motorway on the southern outskirts of Glasgow has signalled its confidence in the city’s future commercial prospects by expanding its facilities by 50 per cent.

The owners of Spiersbridge Business Park, where current tenants include Boss Group, DMS Energy Solutions and Redpath, are seeking tenants for an additional 70,000 square feet at the site.

The business district, located close to Thornliebank and junction three of the M77, is seeking 26 tenants for a mix of office space and industrial units.

The Park is currently home to 44 businesses across three office pavilions, three industrial units and a 26,000 square foot industrial terrace.

With the area operating at full capacity, and demand for business space now outstripping supply, owner Spiersbridge Property Developments is looking to expand the facility by more than one half.

It is working with East Renfrewshire Council to attract new businesses to the area, where the business park is close to the suburbs of Giffnock, Clarkston and Newton Mearns.

SPD director Chris Hanlon said: “It was always our intention to grow the business park, it was just a matter of when.

“Our existing facilities have been operating at full capacity for some time and we believe the time is now right to begin that process. We’re confident there’s sufficient demand to justify the level of expansion we propose.”

SPD, which Mr Hanlon owns with fellow director Frank McSkeane, reported growing demand from sole traders and companies requiring more flexible premises.

Among the facilities on offer is a shared office come “hot-desking” suite, which will offer services such as telephone answering, accountancy and IT support. Meeting rooms are also available.

Mr McSkeane said: “For businesses that are not quite ready to expand into their own office, virtual office services are a good starting point and there’s a lack of those services in the area.

“The hot-desking suite is aimed at the growing number of start-up and small businesses that require all of the facilities needed to trade effectively but who are not yet ready to invest in premises.

“We provide the furniture, equipment and service – you book a slot and turn up with your laptop. Many young companies like to have a business postcode and a secretary answering their calls because it gives them credibility with their clients but they are not yet ready to pay the full costs. Our new services allow them to acquire those at a fraction of the price.”

Drinks wholesaler Inverarity Morton moved to a £3m base in the nearby Thornliebank Industrial Estate in September.
