HELEN Mahy has been appointed to the board of SSE, and will join the utility giant after stepping down as a non-executive director of fellow Perth-based company Stagecoach at the end of February.

Ms Mahy, who was awarded a CBE for services to business in June, will join the SSE board on March 1. She has been on the board of Stagecoach since 2010.

Ms Mahy, formerly group company secretary and general counsel of National Grid, chairs The Renewables Infrastructures Group, and is a non-executive director of SVG Capital and Norwegian companies Bonheur ASA and Ganger Rolf ASA.

SSE said its board will comprise the chairman, six non-executive directors and two executive directors when Ms Mahy takes up her appointment in March.

SSE chairman Richard Gillingwater said: “I am very pleased that Helen will be joining the board, because she will being depth of knowledge from her career in the energy industry and breadth of outlook form the work she now does with a range of other organisations.

“I am sure she will make a substantial contribution to the work of the board and its committees I the coming years.”

Stagecoach said its board and nomination committee has commenced the search for a new non-executive director.

“In particular, she has brought a keen focus to the health, safety and environmental governance of the group.”
