Facebook went down for the second time in a week, leaving users to vent their frustration at the crash on Twitter.

As users tried to log in to the social network, they were met with the error message "sorry something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can".

Visitors to the Facebook website first started experiencing problems at around 8pm UK time, but the problem appeared to have been resolved around 40 minutes later.

Some of those unable to use the site took to Twitter to express themselves.

"I don't think that the people tweeting about Facebook being down understand that we're here to avoid Facebook," posted @TheMichaelRock.

While @LoemBo tweeted: "Facebook is down again, luckily we still have Twitter #facebookdown", and Jayde Donovan wrote: "What do you do when you find out Facebook is down? Sit and read all the tweets about Facebook being down. #Facebookdown".

Facebook is used by more than 1.49 billion people across the world. The crash was the second time in a week that the site has experienced problems, with errors also occurring on Thursday.
