HCI Viocare’s technology and research centre has been officially opened by Nicola Sturgeon.

The Glasgow site, in the Govan area of the city and specialising in orthotics and prosthetics, already employs five people and expects to add to its workforce in the coming months.

The business is looking at ways to commercialise smart sensor technology to tackle issues ranging from bed sores and diabetes related foot ulcer problems to athletic injuries.

HCi Viocare’s co-founder and chief technology officer Christos Kapatos, a graduate of Strathclyde University, said: “As well as actively seeking partners to commercialise our smart sensors and other technologies internationally, we aim to extend prosthetics and orthotics clinics across Mediterranean Europe based on the model being established by our new Glasgow clinic.”
