Prosthetic limb maker Touch Bionics has opened its first central European care centre to show medical staff how to fit its products.

The Touch Life Centre in Heidelberg, Germany, adds to similar clinics at its headquarters in Livingston, West Lothian, and in Hilliard, Ohio, in the United States.

The company is recognised as a world leader in making prosthetic hands and digits.

It said it saw Germany as the biggest market in central Europe for advanced prosthetics.

However it will also offer multi-lingual training courses at the new base to attract staff from across the continent.

Ian Stevens, chief executive, said: “We recognise the importance of education and training to clinicians when delivering optimal outcomes for the community of i-limb wearers.

“We intend that this well-equipped and highly professional facility, utilising our recently revised teaching methods and on-line learning modules, will be a very useful clinical resource for all our customers.”

Touch Bionics has had a sales office in Germany since 2013.
