HOUSEBUILDER Stewart Milne Group has launched a campaign to revitalise run down community spaces such as back yards as part of its 40th or Ruby anniversary celebrations. Under the Regenerating Urban Back Yards (RUBY) scheme, the Aberdeen-based building group will provide funding, people or materials to restore or improve spaces in north-east and central Scotland and the north-west of England. Individuals, special interest groups, charities and community councils will be able to nominate an outdoor space for improvement. Members of the public will be able to vote for projects they feel deserve support through social media channels. A judging panel will make the final decision on the winners. The panel members are: Jonathan Fair, Stewart Milne Homes Central Scotland managing director; Tim Blott managing director of Newsquest Scotland, which publishes The Herald and Keith Geddes, Central Scotland Green Network chairman. The deadline for submission of nominations is 16th October 2015. Nomination forms are available at www.stewartmilne.com. The winners will be announced in November. Stewart Milne has not put a value on the scheme. It expects to support projects of varying sizes.
