Standard Life has hired a new legal chief from Royal Bank of Scotland.

Rushad Abadan has been at the bank for more than nine years and is expected to join Standard Life as its group general counsel early next year.

Mr Abadan started his career in India and came to the UK to work for law firm Dundas & Wilson.

He was promoted to deputy general counsel at RBS earlier this year having filled a number of finance and corporate roles.

Malcolm Wood left as Standard Life's general counsel in October last year to join Lloyds Banking Group. The role has been filled on an interim basis by David Burns.

Keith Skeoch, chief executive of Standard Life, said: "Rushad has exceptional experience working in a variety of roles with a large international financial institution and I am delighted to welcome him to Standard Life. He is joining the company at an exciting time as we continue to build our business around the world.

“He will be a strong addition to our team and I very much look forward to working with him."
