Last week’s landmark EU-UK deal on Northern Ireland was significant in its own right.
WHEN it comes to the independence debate, the questions of Scottish EU membership and the border between Scotland and England regularly top the list of concerns. With Brexit long since realised, the two issues are now interlinked. Were Scotland to become a state and join the EU, its borders and relations with the residual UK would be defined by its EU membership.
SCOTLAND’S relationships with the rest of Europe and the world matter. Given the depth of global interconnection, our devolved institutions can only fully exercise their functions by engaging with colleagues across this continent and beyond. Our politics, economy and society benefit from cooperation with European and international counterparts.
