What's the story?

Books.

Books? I think you're in the wrong place. These are the TV pages.

The Big Scottish Book Club begins on BBC Scotland, 10pm, tomorrow.

This sounds intriguing.

The four-part series, hosted by Damian Barr, will see some of biggest names in fiction, non-fiction and poetry – such as Graham Norton, Marian Keyes, David Nicholls, Patrick Gale and Denise Mina – interviewed before a live audience.

Ooooh. I have such a soft spot for Marian Keyes. And Denise Mina. All of them, really. Tell me more.

The debut episode comes from the Inchyra Arts Club in Perthshire. The theme of the show: crime.

Crime? Are books being stolen?

No, silly. I mean the genre. Rebus creator Ian Rankin will be talking about his latest book, In A House of Lies, alongside debut novelist Sara Collins, who wrote The Confessions of Frannie Langton, and Ambrose Parry – aka Chris Brookmyre and Marisa Haetzman – who penned The Way of All Flesh. Poet Richard Scott will perform his work Dancing Bear.

Do we need to read all the books beforehand?

Yes. You do. Or your telly will be confiscated by the literary police.

Really? That sounds a bit harsh.

It's entirely up to you if you want to risk it.
