THE Scottish Football Association could hold discussions with the representatives of both Rangers and Mike Ashley over the billionaire's Ibrox influence.

The Hampden hierarchy have written to the club and the Newcastle United owner requesting more detail about his involvement and future plans after Ashley increased his boardroom power last month.

Ashley has signed an undertaking which limits him to owning no more than 10% of the shares in Rangers International Football Club plc and pledging not to have an influence in the running of the Ibrox club.

"We've written to the club itself and to Mike Ashley looking for clarification," said Campbell Ogilvie, the SFA president. "That could lead to a meeting between the SFA and the club and, indeed, Mike Ashley and his advisors. That would be the next step. Then we'll take it from there. But we really need more information."
