DAVID MARSHALL Held a couple of shots from distance early on but earned his corn in second half with saves from Long and McGeady 7
DAVID MARSHALL Held a couple of shots from distance early on but earned his corn in second half with saves from Long and McGeady 7
STEVEN WHITTAKER Engaging stuff with McClean down the right. The occasional mistake but he pushed on fearlessly, some good deliveries and tested Forde with low, left foot shot 7
GRANT HANLEY Foul on Walters typified early worries under high balls, but kept throwing his body in. Silly booking left him walking a tightrope, and almost a late own goal 7
RUSSELL MARTIN Long balls a chore early on but the Norwich City defender settled down and started to get a grip of things at the back 7
ANDREW ROBERTSON Handled the biggest game of his life like a trooper. Too quick even for Coleman and won most jousts with McGeady. Booked 9
SCOTT BROWN His midfield nous helped steady Scotland nerves when times were rough. Main job was keeping possession but saw the big picture with back-heel for the goal 7
CHARLIE MULGREW Reprised his club role due to an illness to James Morrison and nearly brought the house down with late run and header which flew a metre wide. Great shift late on 8
IKECHI ANYA His flaring pace down the left was a feature all night. Reached the bye-line on multiple occasions with no takers but particularly invaluable to relieve pressure late on 8
STEVEN NAISMITH Booed on home soil, presumably for having the temerity to have played for Rangers. Few, if any, sights of goal but plenty of good work in dangerous areas 7
SHAUN MALONEY Caused menace from set-plays and down the right all night, but sweet, curled winner will live in the memory 8
STEVEN FLETCHER The hunt for his second international goal continues. Headed over and might have scored another had he been more confident on right side 6
SUBSTITUTES
CHRIS MARTIN (Fletcher 56) Took the Derby County contingent to three. Headed over almost immediately, then inches wide from Naismith cross, but really helped his side 6
DARREN FLETCHER (Anya 88) Former skipper came on to shore things up 4
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
