Craig Brown, the former Scotland manager, has urged Inverness Caledonian Thistle to appoint Kenny Shiels as their next manager, claiming he is "a perfect fit" for the task in the Highlands.
Shiels is believed to be in the frame along with Craig Levein and former player, Barry Wilson, though Caley themselves are maintaining they won't be rushed into appointing Terry Butcher's successor.
Brown, however, has no doubts about who should be the new manager at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
"If I were Inverness Caledonian Thistle I would be crawling over broken glass to get Kenny Shiels in as their new manager," he said. "Maybe this is an arrogance on my part, as it's not my call at all. But what I do know is that Kenny is an excellent coach.
"He would be a perfect fit at that club, in the way that some managers often are in football. In days gone by Bill Shankly was a perfect fit at Liverpool. His brother, Bob, whom I played under, was a perfect fit at Dundee. These situations just seem to happen.
"I think Kenny would be perfect for Inverness because it is a community club and he is very community-minded as a coach. He would embrace that club and the fans would embrace him."
Brown believes that Shiels' hands-on experience at Kilmarnock, where he steered the club to League Cup success despite costs being slashed at Rugby Park, makes him suited to a similar job in the Highlands.
"At Inverness, just like at Kilmarnock, you've got to improvise as a manager - you don't get everything handed to you on a plate in terms of infrastructure," Brown added. "And Kenny Shiels for me is the master of improvisation.
"He knows how to make do and mend. He knows how to mould a team. He likes to give youth its chance and, if possible, youth from the local area.
"Kenny also builds up players' confidence. He makes players feel they are better than they are. You watch any team Kenny has coached - they all want to take the ball. He's very driven. In my opinion he's just a really good football manager."
Kenny Cameron, the Inverness chairman, insists the club will not be rushed into installing their next manager, even hinting that coaches Duncan Shearer and Scott Kellacher might still be taking the team when they play in the SPFL Premiership against St Johnstone at home on Saturday.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
