Hearts defender Stephen Kingsley returned to action against Swansea City in a friendly.

Robbie Neilson's men lost 2-1 to the English Championship side as they began preparations for the return of the Scottish Premiership.

It is the first time Kingsley has featured for the Jambos since he was forced off during a Europa Conference League match last month.

And Neilson was delighted to see his team get some minutes in their legs.

He said: “It was good to get out there running about again.

"The boys have had two weeks off and have had one training session and the game today.

"We played two 45 minutes, a more experienced team in the first half.

“And then it was good to see some of the kids get some game time as well.

“It was a worthy exercise. It was good to see them (Kingsley and Halkett) - the international boys and Craig Gordon have some extra time off and the Aussie boys are at the World Cup which is great to see.

“But it’s great to see the rest of the boys coming back. We still have Josh Ginnelly, Gary Mackay-Steven and Stephen Humphrys to come back.

“We’re still a wee bit off it but I’d like to think by the first game back they’ll all be back with us.”

Meanwhile, the Scottish Women's Premier League has announced record attendances for the game in the country.

Over 12,700 fans attended SWPL games across the two leagues at the weekend, with the highest by far taking place at Easter Road, where 8,066 fans witnessed the Edinburgh derby.

That was well over the previous domestic record set last season at 5,512.

The match between Celtic and Rangers on Saturday night also attracted 3,328 spectators to Broadwood Stadium.

SWPL managing director Fiona McIntyre believes the figures are further evidence of the continued growth of women’s football in Scotland.

“This is another historic moment for the SWPL and the women’s game as a whole”, she stated.

“What we’re seeing is the continued growth of women’s football in Scotland and a desire for fans to engage with it."
