THE bias of the Western media reporting on Syria is lamentable. Alarming reports of the plight of the civilians in Ghouta, outside Damascus is receiving wide coverage. Reports from doctors and aid workers daily describe the ravages of war in that area. What is never reported by the media is the fact that the terrorists holding Ghouta have, for many months, been shelling Damascus and subjecting the civilian population to daily rocket attacks. Presumably the death toll of civilians in Damascus is also considerable, but the United States, with the western powers at her heels, seems unconcerned at the continuing slaughter of women and children there. There is no reporting from Damascus, where the civilians bleed as much as the civilians in Ghouta.

The Syrian Government is once again being demonised while the terrorists are portrayed as defenceless victims. Presumably, western opinion is being softened up to accept another American-led regime change, this time in Damascus, with all the ensuing carnage and chaos already witnessed in Libya and Iraq.

The terrorists in Ghouta are using the civilian population as human shields. Civil war takes the greatest toll of civilian lives but if the legitimate government in Syria wishes to defeat terrorism within its borders, what other course does it have but to defeat them in armed conflict?

If the American Government and its satellite Western allies genuinely wish to defeat terrorism in the Middle east, it might start by cutting off the supply of arms which has enabled the terrorists in Ghouta to sustain a six-year armed insurrection against the Syrian Government.
