THE 8am news bulletin on BBC Radio Scotland is getting shorter and shorter. What was nine minutes has been down to eight minutes much of the last few months and this week it hit a new low. On Monday (November 23) we were told it finished at "just gone seven minutes past eight" and today (November 24) it was "seven and a half minutes past eight".
According to the press release issued on December 16, 2014 "The changes [from March 2015] are being made to bring more news and current affairs to daytime coverage in line with BBC Scotland's 'speech by day, music by night' strategy".
This is clearly not happening, especially at weekends when sport has taken over Sunday as well as Saturday and we are now deprived of the customary meal time news bulletins at 1pm and 6pm.
Why could not these weekend news and weather bulletins be broadcast on at least one of the wavebands?
Has there been a cutback in news gathering staff both during the week and at weekends?
The listening public should be informed as to why the service has got so much worse.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
