THE family of a teenage girl killed in a car crash have described her as a ‘special loving girl.’

Lisa Bahmani, 18, died when her Hyundai Getz was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Ignis driven by a 71-year-old woman.

The incident on the A68 St Boswells to Jedburgh Road in the Borders occurred near an entrance to a caravan park at about 8pm on Wednesday.

Ms Bahmani was taken to the Borders General Hospital where she later died.

As police launched an investigation, relatives paid tribute to Ms Bahmani, from Hawick. They said: “Lisa was a much-loved daughter, sister and friend. She was a special loving girl who loved animals.

“Lisa will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

“We are grateful for all the messages of support.

“We would like to ask the media for privacy now to come to terms with our loss.”

Police have appealed for witnesses following the incident just south of Newton St Boswells.

The 71-year-old female driver of the Ignis also sustained serious injuries and is currently in a serious condition within hospital.

A 78-year-old man, who was also within the Ignis, is currently being treated for a chest injury. However, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Road Policing Officers closed the road for around 10 hours and are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Inglis from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Galashiels said: “Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young woman and the driver of the other vehicle remains in a very serious condition in hospital.

“We are continuing with our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge any motorists who were on the A68 at around 8 pm. on Wednesday to contact us immediately if they witnessed the incident.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry should also get in touch.”
