Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael has retained his Orkney and Shetland constituency, despite the SNP sweeping the board in Scotland.

The Liberal Democrat saw off a challenge from SNP candidate Danus Skene, who polled 8,590 votes in the island seat.

Mr Carmichael saw his support fall from 62% in 2010 to 41.4% this time, after picking up 9,407 votes.

On what was a historic night for the SNP, he was the first non-nationalist MP elected in Scotland.
