Fire crews have been tackling a motorhome fire which forced the evacuation of some surrounding properties.
Emergency services said they set up an exclusion zone around the incident near a North Lanarkshire garage this morning after a large gas tank involved in the blaze caused several explosions.
Nobody was hurt as a result of the blaze, which has now been brought under control.
Emergency services said they were called to the scene, on ground near Colours body workshop at East Main Street, Harthill, at about 6.30am today.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the presence of an LPG gas tank in the vehicle, a type of motorhome or campervan, added to the complexity of the operation.
A spokeswoman said: "It was because of the gas tank involved that's caused us all the problems. I believe there had been quite a lot of explosions because it was a 1,000 litre tank."
Three pumping appliances and one special appliance were involved in the operation to bring the fire under control.
Police said four premises to the rear of the garage were evacuated and an exclusion zone set up around the area while the fire was dealt with.
A spokeswoman said: "No persons were injured. One person was in (the vehicle) but they were safely rescued by the fire service.
"The fire, as I understand it, is now out, but they (the fire crews) are still at the scene. They're just making sure that the fire is completely out. All persons are safe and well."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
