THE Queen's baton has been sent on its way as it begins its international journey to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Members of city dance troupe the Desi Bravehearts handed it over to the team who will take it to Delhi, where the Queen's Baton Relay will begin. The route will take in 70 countries, culminating in a 40-day tour of Scotland, details of which were announced yesterday.

Thousands of schoolchildren may attend the Games for free after a similar scheme operated at the London Olympics last year. First Minister Alex Salmond has suggested details of a similar move in Scotland could be released "very shortly". An announcement is expected early next year to ensure the Games are accessible to as many people as possible.
