A shooting incident where a shot was fired at a car is being treated as attempted murder, police have said.

Officers were called to the scene in Poplar Street, Greenock, Inverclyde, at about 12.45pm yesterday after a report that a firearm had been discharged at a Vauxhall Insignia vehicle.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 4ins and slim. He was wearing dark-coloured clothing and had a scarf over his face.

Police have appealed for information about the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Catriona Henderson said: "The car and the suspect left the scene before police arrival, however there are no reports of any injuries at this time.

"We are aware that there were a number of vehicles in the area of Poplar Street around the time of the attack and I would ask any witnesses to this incident to come forward to police.

"Officers are continuing to study CCTV images and carry out enquiries in the local area to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and trace the person responsible."
