AUCHINLECK's Kate Adams won the world women's indoor bowls singles'

title in Guernsey last night with a convincing 7-0, 7-1, 0-7, 7-3

victory over English champion Jayne Roylance.

The Scottish international player completed her 17-end demolition of

her opponent in little over an hour with a procession of inch-perfect

bowls to leave her opponent reeling.

Both players qualified from the same section after their earlier

round-robin play-downs.

Adams won her way to the final with a three sets to one quarter-final

win over local player Jenny Nicolle, and, in the semi-finals, 3-0

against the last of the local hopes, Wilma le Feuvre.

Roylance fought off the challenge of Scottish champion Catherine

McIntosh, from Stonehaven, in her quarter-final match and English

team-mate Mary Price, the 1991 champion and last year's beaten finalist,

in the other semi-final.

Scotland's defending champion, Sarah Gourlay, from Prestwick, went

down by three sets to one to Mary Price in a repeat of last year's

* CUMBERNAULD snatched a last-gasp 74-69 extra-end victory over

Bainfield in the final of the CIS Insurance Scottish Cup at Arbroath on

Saturday.

Cumbernauld raced into an early 23-9 lead after five ends, and had

managed to maintain a five-shot, 36-31 lead at the halfway stage.

With six ends left to play, Cumbernauld still showed

58-48 in front and held on to their slender advantage, taking a 68-62

lead into the last end.

But Bainfield finished powerfully, picking six shots across the board

without reply to square the match at 68-all and force an extra end

play-off.

In the decider, however, it was Cumbernauld who came out on top when

Tom Stewart picked up one shot against Bainfield's Alex Marshall, Murdo

McGinness took two shots from Frazer Muirhead, and Ian Thomson counted

three over Alan Brown, with Bainfield's consolation shot coming from

Robert Marshall's game with Alec McCrae. Result and details (after an

extra end):

Cumbernauld 74, Bainfield 69 (Tom Stewart 15, Alex Marshall 15; Murod

McGinness 17, Frazer Muirhead 20; Alec McCrae 20, Robert Marshall 17;

Ian Thomson 22, Alan Brown 17).
