CLUB RUGBY
A NEW career may soon dawn for GHK's Gordon McIlwham. A request has come through from Murrayfield that the 26-year-old prop should be tried out on the other side of the front row.
The powers that be have shown enough interest in his mobility for McIlwham to be included as replacement in the development squad for the match against Durham County at Prestonpans on Wednesday. So with that in mind he will play at left prop for GHK against Glasgow Academicals in the regional league match tomorrow at Old Anniesland.
McIlwham played at loose head this season for Glasgow when they beat Connacht last month, but that was an emergency selection. For a variety of reasons Glasgow had run out of loose-head props.
Jason Sharp, the Kilmarnock scrum half, also will play out of position tomorrow. On his comeback after injury his club will field him at full back against West of Scotland.
West will be without Gordon Bulloch and Guy Perrett. Both are taking a well-earned rest after a recent busy programme of representative rugby, most recently helping Glasgow to win the under-21 district championship.
However, West can still list four of that victorious team - Alan Bulloch, James Craig, Tony Greenshields, and David Jamieson.
Members of Scotland's winning team in Dublin will not be playing in club rugby tomorrow. They will be concentrating on the Murrayfield international against France next week, though the squad's replacements will be keeping sharp in club rugby.
Kenny Logan will play for Stirling against Wigtownshire at Stranraer, Craig Chalmers and Doddie Weir for Melrose against Kelso at the Greenyards, and Jim Hay for Hawick against Peebles at Mansfield Park, the first time those two Border clubs have met.
Stirling give young Gavin Spowage an outing at wing forward against Wigtownshire. He played for Glasgow's under-19 team last season.
Andrew Hay and Duncan Hodge, are on the way back after injury. Hay played for Ayr in the friendly against Biggar last week, and he will continue his comeback tomorrow against Glasgow Southern, while Hodge is back at fly half for Watsonians against Biggar at Myreside, having proved his recovery from shoulder damage by playing for the club's 2A XV last week.

q GLASGOW High face a tough game tomorrow when they play George Watson's College at Myreside.Since Christmas, 1993, Watson's have lost only two games a period, which Roy Mack, head of physical education at the College, describes as ``something of a purple patch.''
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
