A RANGERS supporter who had been drinking was infuriated when he heard Celtic songs coming from the back of a bus, so he threw his dog at the singer, Linlithgow Sheriff Court was told yesterday.

However, Eddie Copeland had instigated the outburst of sectarian rivalry on the bus in Bathgate in October 1993 by singing Rangers songs, and reacted angrily when another passenger retaliated. He also annoyed women and refused to be quiet when passengers complained to the driver.

Copeland, 52, of Victoria Road, Fauldhouse, West Lothian, who admitted breach of the peace and causing unnecessary suffering to his dog, was thrown off the bus - with his pet Jack Russell terrier.

He was put on probation for one year and ordered to get help for his drink problem.
