ALAN Stubbs admits he's loved every minute of his new Celtic career, even though his #3.5m record-breaking transfer has been dogged by controversy since his move to Parkhead in May.
The deal which took the 24-year-old former Bolton captain to Celtic will be investigated by FIFA later this month, after it was alleged the deal was done by an unlicensed agent and should be called off.
But Stubbs insisted there is nothing wrong with the transfer and the only thing he is thinking about is become a success at Celtic.
He said: ``I've never let all the talk surrounding the move get me down. All I'm thinking about is my first training session with the lads.
``It's going to be great meeting all the players and getting to know them a bit better. I've already met a few of the lads, such as Paul McStay, Peter Grant and Phil O'Donnell, who were really nice. In fact, everyone at the club has been very helpful and friendly.
``Ever since I first came to Glasgow I've been made to feel very welcome. It's been a brilliant start to my Celtic career. It's all gone very smoothly so far and, fortunately, my wife Mandy and our five-week-old daughter Heather have settled in very well and have move into a new house.
``It's a shame there has been all this talk about the transfer and I think too much has been made of it. Iain and Neil Rioch, who organised my move to Celtic, have said they are licensed to do the deal and that's good enough for me.''
The England B international is well aware that this is a massive season for his new club.
He revealed: ``I have been told by the players all the history of the Jock Stein-inspired Celtic winning nine successive championships.
``And I know the supporters are desperate for us to stop Rangers equalling the feat and that gives us an even bigger incentive to win the title.
``I think the fans have been shown by the club how determined they are to win the league and go on to the very top in the game.
``In the past Celtic may have been reluctant to spend a lot of money on players. But that is definitely not the case now. You can see that with the arrival of Paolo Di Canio and Jorge Cadete.''
Stubbs added: ``Bolton are quite a big club, but Celtic are absolutely massive.
``Celtic are easily as good as any of the top teams in the Premiership.
``On the day I signed for Celtic I said there wasn't a big gulf between Scottish and English football. But, with all due respect, some of the clubs I'm going to come up against would really struggle in England.
``I found out that with Bolton last season, when we were up against it every week and they were a big club.''
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
