FRENCH Duncan, the Scottish accountancy firm, has appointed a new managing director to its financial services division.

Zane Hunter has joined the mid-tier accountant from Broadstone Pensions and Investments, formerly BDO Investment Management, where he was private client partner.

He is also a former wealth adviser for Towry and assistant regional director for Baker Tilly Financial Services.

He said: "Most of my career has been spent advising clients and their solicitors and accountants about the various financial, legal and tax implications of private wealth matters. Recent changes to the regulatory environment have caused a fundamental change in the way advisers interact with clients. With the continued legislative changes, it is even more important now for advisers to be forward thinking and to be able to interact with other professional advisers.

"The culture at French Duncan is very much about understanding clients' needs and I am delighted to join the business at such an exciting time for our profession to help conduct and orchestrate effective wealth management advice on behalf of our clients."

Managing partner Graeme Finnie, said: "Securing the services of someone of Zane's calibre is a real coup for the firm. It is our intention to grow French Duncan (Financial Services) into one of the highest quality boutique wealth management businesses in the UK. It won't be about volume; instead we are focussed on exceptional client service."

Mr Hunter joins with French Duncan in the midst of an expansion phase. The Glasgow-based firm launched a new human resources division in November and acquired acquired independent Bearsden practice Abercrombie Gemmell in June.

It invested hundreds of thousands of pounds in a switch to a new Glasgow office in March.

The financial services arm focuses on issues such as retirement planning and inheritance tax.

Mr Hunter takes particular interest in advising small to medium sized enterprises, particularly in relation to exit-planning, tax-planning mechanisms and advice to the third sector.
