GILCHRIST Steels, a Glasgow-based steel fabrication and stockholding business, has been put on the market because its owners plan to retire.

The £1 million-plus turnover business, which was founded in 1976, is billed by its current leadership as being in strong financial shape.

And the owning Gilchrist family believe it would serve as an ideal "add on" business for a larger company, noting that it offers considerable development potential.

The Busby-based company fabricates, delivers and erects steel for customers in the Glasgow area, with products ranging from moorings and steel stairs to balconies and support structures.

Its workshop at Riverbank Works also offers saw cutting, welding, drilling and punching services.

The firm describes itself as a "thriving" steel fabrication and stockholding, adding that it enjoys a "strong reputation" for its reliable and efficient service, and the know-how and experience of its v12 staff.

The company, which has been owned by the Gilchrist family since its inception nearly 40 years ago said the business offers an opportunity for an "enterprising individual with experience in the construction sector."

It noted: "Secure profitability with a turnover in excess of £1m, [and] founded in 1976, [it] means the prospective owner would hit the ground running and be able to exploit considerable scope for expansion.

"The business, which owns its own premises and has a satisfactory balance sheet, would also suit a larger enterprise as an "add on" to existing capabilities.

"[The] retiring founders would prefer an owner intent on developing [the company's] growth opportunity."
