SUBSEA engineering specialist Jee has won a contract to demonstrate the technology it has developed to help lay cables for tidal energy facilities in Scottish waters.

Jee, which has offices in Aberdeen, says its "U-tube" system provides marine contractors with full control of the cable installation process. The company has won phase two of a contract with Scottish Enterprise under which its technology will be used on demonstration tidal energy facilities around Scotland. Neil Ferguson, Energy and Clean Technologies Senior Executive at Scottish Enterprise, said: "Finding safe and low-cost solutions in this field is a key requirement for the successful deployment and operation of the initial demonstration tidal arrays around Scotland. " Aquatera will install the technology on the demonstration sites.
