Hunter Boot has recorded a five per cent rise in profit in its most recent financial year.

The company, which is best known for its Wellington boots which have proved popular with celebrities at music festivals, said sales rose 17 per cent from £81.7 million to £95.7m in 2014.

That helped to boost pre-tax profit at the company, which has its registered office in Edinburgh and boasts a Royal Warrant, from £14.6m to £15.4m.

During 2014 it opened a flagship retail store on Regent Street in London.

Chief executive James Seuss also highlighted the shift from being “a single product business into a global lifestyle brand” making jackets, clothing, accessories and other types of footwear.

The company also launched a new e-commerce site for Europe and a joint venture with Itochu in Japan. A Hunter store is set to open in Tokyo in spring next year.

Mr Seuss said Hunter has also invested in updated IT systems and infrastructure to support its expansion plans. He added: “We are currently on track to deliver further growth in 2015.”

The United States is the company's largest market with other countries where it sells well including Canada, Japan, Germany and Italy.
