Stephen Bailey discusses confidence, Scottish men and why he should have been a popstar.

Tell us about your Fringe show

My new soon-to-be hit show Stephen Bailey: Should’ve Been a Popstar is all about confidence. It’s something I used to really struggle with and I think nowadays we all hide behind social media so I am encouraging people to release their inner Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. There’s also some dick jokes.

Best thing about the Fringe?

I really love getting to meet new audience members and realising that I am not the only crazy biatch on this Earth! Also Scottish men are hairy and sexy.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

The final bill at the end! Buy tickets peeps.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

Four years! And still never kissed a Scot. Sort yourself out CC Blooms.

Favourite Fringe venue?

My favourite fringe venue is Bunker 2 at The Pleasance Courtyard. It is particularly amazing at around 4:15pm, they have some great shows on like Stephen Bailey: Should’ve Been A Popstar.

Best Fringe memory?

Being up there with my childhood friend, who I worked at Sainsbury’s Denton, Sara Cocker who is part of the amazing Eggs Collective.

Best heckle?

GAY!

Craziest on stage experience?

I asked at a gig once Where are my gays? And some chump yelled DEAD! I got the ass-crack sweat.

What’s on your rider?

Full fat coke and your dad!

How do you wind down after a show?

With full fat coke and your dad!

What do you love about Scotland?

The Loch Ness monster.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

CC Blooms… Where my gays at?

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Bruce!

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Well, here I must point out that not all Scots are the same. In Glasgow, they love a dick joke. In Edinburgh, they preferred the parental stuff!

Favourite joke?

I was with this guy for three years, but we ended up breaking up because he went into the navy and came out straight…. which is the wrong way round.

Stephen Bailey will perform at the Pleasance Courtyard from August 5-18 and 20-30.
