Finding Fassbender is on at the Pleasance Courtyard – Pleasance This, during August.

Writer and performer of Finding Fasbender, Lydia Larson, answers our questions.

  • What is your fringe show about?

Finding Fassbender follows Eve, a thirty-one year old woman from Wolverhampton who leaves home for the first time to live and work in London. But Eve finds herself on a much bigger, more fantastical adventure than just ‘girl in the big city’ when she sets out to return a letter to Michael Fassbender. In doing so Eve tries to find her place in the world and discover what she’s really made of.

  • How many times/many years have you appeared at the fringe?

This will be my fourth year performing at the fringe but the first time I’m taking my own work. Hold me tight please.

  • What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?

Two years ago after our final performance, my co-actor Pierro and I were very drunk and entered the space we had been performing in, in the evening. I got on stage and started improvising a bit of stand up (I was HILARIOUS), Pierro sat in the audience heckling. We were living our best lives until we got thrown out. The next day we had to apologise to our producer who had received a very angry phone call from the venue.

  • What’s the worst thing about the fringe?

Bumping in to an ex in Assembly Bar to then realise they’re sat with every guy you’ve ever had a fling with. But it happens to all of us, right?

  • If you were not a performer what would you be doing?

Probably all the the jobs I do when I’m not acting: Teacher, bartender, babysitter, data inputter, theatre usher, full time hustler.

  • How do you prepare for a performance?

I listen to a lot of music. I make a playlist for each project relating to the character, so in Edinburgh I’ll listen to that on the walk to the venue. Currently it’s decked out with dance bangers like Roger Sanchez’s Another Chance. I also enjoy a pre-show banana and a gentle stretch.

  • Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?

The Dagda pub!

  • What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?

I once dreamt I was a competitor in a caber toss. I was very powerful.

  • Favourite Scottish food/drink?

I love a whisky. Talisker and Laphroaig are my favourites. And haggis is a taste sensation. And I’m delighted to report my local Sainsbury’s has recently started stocking vegan haggis.

  • Describe your show in three words.

Funny, honest, hopeful.
