Short & Curly: Young at Start is on at the Pleasance Courtyard - Pleasance That, during August.
- What is your Fringe show about?
Short: Curly is turning 40 whilst we’re in Edinburgh, he’s slightly panicked about that as he believes you need to be young to be successful and he tries to recapture his youth by looking back at his memories.
Curly: Yes and Short sabotages my memories as she feels looking back is futile.
- How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?
Short: This is Short & Curly’s fifth show at the Fringe although we’ve both appeared at the Fringe in other guises since 2007. You do the math…seriously I’m not very good at maths.
- What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?
Short: We did a late night gig once and it was so late that by accident we’d had a few to many beverages. It was a musical piece and when we got on stage we both thought the track had doubled in speed. There is no way that the tracks could possibly be any quicker but we were both convinced. Fortunately the audience found it funny to watch us floundering.
Curly: And there’s the time we started a show by pretending to take our audience hostage and a woman ran out, leaving her coat and daughter.
- What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?
Curly: When it rains.
Short: How tiring it is walking from one place to another. The city could do with travellators.
- If you were not a performer what would you be doing?
Curly: Something that requires little actual work, Human statue?
Short: Working as an elf for Father Christmas.
- How do you prepare for a performance?
Short: Rehearse. Run lines. Warm up. Shake it out.
Curly: Pick my nose. Then Lucozade.
- Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?
Short: Being amongst so much creativity.
Curly: Hearing American tourists trying to pronounce Edinburgh.
- What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?
Short: Lost my trousers.
Curly: Walked 500 miles.
- Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Short: Tattydog.
Curly: Agreed.
- Sum up your show in three words
Short: Silly. Sketch. Musical.
Show summary
Curly is convinced that appearing youthful is the answer to success and he will do whatever is necessary to get 'youth'. Cut a long story short. Short ruins it.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
