Continuing the theme of patio wines, I thought we could take a leisurely look at three classic still wine styles to share with your neighbours this summer.

Mosel Riesling Kabinet is always high on my list, as much for its flexibility as its unique waxy fruity style. I love the soft peachy flavours, the full waxy palate that lingers and the crisp acidity on these wines and they pair superbly with a wide range of snacks and shellfish.

Pinot Grigio is a grape that's grown on me in recent years and while Italy is still the spiritual home of the grape, I've been really enjoying the Aussie and Kiwi versions of late. They are cracking aperitif wines but, for a real treat, try one with a crab salad.

My third choice may surprise you but do give it a go. I love a sweet white wine in the summer, especially a Sauterne or an Aussie Muscat. The sweetness is tempered and the flavours are enhanced by serving them as cool as a penguin’s bottom, but keep the bottle on ice and pair with a rich blue cheese.

As the Beatles said...here comes the sun!
